So you’re on a journey. You’re thirsty, you’re tired and all you want to do is rest. And then God brings along another one of His divine appointments. Sensational! You needed that like a hole in the head, right?

I remember being in Rwanda back in 2016. I’d just finished two solid days of teaching for forty or so radio and television stations from across Africa. I was exhausted. All I wanted to do was crawl back to my room, roll up in a ball and go to sleep. But no! Joseph, our Africa Director, had organised dinner at the home of the parents of a young Rwandan woman, Brenda, whom he’d met the previous year at a conference in Indonesia.

Does that sound convoluted? It was. And I was furious as we bumped for close to an hour in the back of a 4WD over hill and dale that evening, to their home in Kigali. What followed, however, was one of the most blessed times of ministry with this family that I’ve ever experienced.

To cut a long story short, that young woman Brenda is now a key part of our ministry team in Africa. God has done amazing things through her and no doubt will continue to do so. It turns out that divine appointments aren’t always convenient.

John 4:6-8 Jacob’s well was there. Jesus was tired from his long trip, so he sat down beside the well. It was about noon. A Samaritan woman came to the well to get some water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” This happened while his followers were in town buying some food.

Jesus was tired, He was thirsty and He was hungry. But His Father in heaven had a divine appointment waiting for Him.

#NoteToSelf: divine appointments aren’t always convenient!

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
