“Feeling good” is a concept that we all understand. And yet for many of us, finding that place, experiencing that feeling … well, it’s like a dog chasing its tail. We think we know where to find it, but it forever seems to remain just out of reach.
A sense of wellbeing is something that we all strive for.
But in this day and age, we’ve been conditioned into believing that we can find it “out there” somewhere, invariably by spending money on ourselves, in a way that’s meant to somehow validates who we are. For women it may be hair do or a new outfit. For men it could be yet another gadget for the workshop or a new piece of technology.
And yet what you discover as you head down that path, is that there’s always something lurking under the surface, telling you that you just don’t measure up.
But then Jesus comes along and says this:
John 8:36 So if the Son makes you free, you are really free.
In other words, “You know something? If you let me set you free then you will truly be free.” What if that’s true? What if on that cross two thousand years ago He really did pay for all our failures? What if there’s a life of freedom and joy and peace ahead in a relationship with Jesus?
Speaking as someone who spent over half a lifetime trying to get my sense of wellbeing from things that I could buy, and yet still always comparing and judging myself a failure, I can tell you, it’s true.
There are some things out there that I truly enjoy. I love the convenience and connectivity that my smartphone gives me. But I no longer try to find my wellbeing in buying the latest model.
Because my sense of wellbeing lives deep inside. And it comes from Jesus.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
