I don’t know about you but a lack of faith, a lack of trust, in God is something that I don’t want to have. And yet, it’s something that lurks there in the background for every person who would put their trust in Jesus. It just does.
Can I ask you to think of a difficult issue that you’re dealing with right at this moment? I mean, maybe you’re in one of those rare seasons in life where you don’t have one … but most of us do, because there always seems to be some “difficult situation” that wants to rob you of your peace.
Now, as you think about that one situation in your life, there’s something that you tend to stop thinking about, if that makes sense. The more we focus on our “difficult situations” the less we remember the reality of who God is … which was Israel’s problem at a particularly difficult juncture in their history.
So God, through the Prophet Isaiah, reminded them of this powerful truth:
Isaiah 41:8-10 But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, my friend; you whom I took from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest corners, saying to you, “You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off”; fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (ESV)
Israel lost sight of the powerful three-part truth that (a) God had chosen them (b) He’d already done amazing things for them and (c) He was indeed their God – and as such, He was set to do powerful things on their behalf.
How easy is it to lose sight of that truth, when you’re focussing on your problems?
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
